consumerism

Okay, so a few things have occurred to me lately.

1) I might as well just start my own blog, b/c I literally waste hours of my days scanning Gawker, Go Fug, The New Yorker and just about every other good blog going out there, then spend the rest of my time posting on this.

2) I'm REALLY glad I'm not this woman: http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/03/26/gaza.crocodiles.ap/index.html

and

3) so, I kind of feel like a real nerd posting this, but we all know that I am slightly, okay, obsessively infatuated with all things fashion, and have more recently been all consumed with the trend of skinny/cigarette jeans (please see previous posts).
I also know that you guys are as well, though perhaps more secretly than myself (need I bring up the fact that Brielle called me the other day to tell me about a new pair of jeans she bought? Or that every time I see Care, one of the first things we talk about is our recent purchases? Or that every time Harvey and I hang, we have a mock accessory showdown-those Betsey Johnson hoops Harvey, you know what I'm talking about.)

That being said, on Saturday, while on my way to Bloomingdale's to pick up a pair of $190 Joe's cigarette jeans that were on hold for me, I decided to stop off at Old Navy for a few new tanks. Well, a good stop indeed. Now, I'm willing to admit (as we all already know) that I am what one could call a 'jean snob' but Old Navy currently has the HOTTEST cigarette jeans-so hot that I bought 2 pairs and ditched the Joe's. They are amazingly comfortable, despite their tight look, hit the ankle PERFECTLY and look stellar with flats, and come in the most perfect vintage blue wash in history. And, they are less than $20. Please, go buy them, look fabulous, and think of me. And then make fun of me behind my back for posting this.

Ah, consumerism.

Mock Song

Okay, so I am rarely on my computer on the weekends, let alone posting on old Lamda here. However, I've been going through this folder of old cds this afternoon and uploading some old classics onto my IPOD.

In doing so, I came across Phish, 'Round Room' and have been listening to 'Pebbles and Marbles' and 'Mock Song' for the first time in literally years, and I thought you guys should know that I shed a few tears while listening, thinking back on memories of the Redstone green, sitting outside on nice days 'mocking' CJ (appropriatley), having next to no worries in the world, with the biggest being who sat shotgun on the way to North Beach, how to afford new goods at Urban while still being able to afford a bag of gummy candy from the shop on Church Street, how to find out who was' throwing down' and how Harvey was getting her next 'bag'.

I also came across an old version of 'The Kevin Your Such a Disease' mix, compliments of Chadsey, the 'I Will Down Size Your Face With a Shovel' mix, which I believe was from some Isham street party, and the 'Ang's Mix of Sweet Hip Hop' which is an amazing complilation of hip hop songs they used to play at '68'.

Just wanted you guys to know that I was thinking of you all and that I am now probably going to call CJ tonight, make plans to watch the Simpsons and then break them, and generally yell at him for no good reason...just b/c he's CJ :)

Love and miss you guys.

xoxo

F the LIRR

Sorry i have not been obsessively checking blogger as i always have, but the LIRR does not trust its employees and therefore limits access to the internet. I have been blocked out from all this fabulous celebrity gossip including britney getting out of rehab. Ang, unfortunately tomorrow does not work for me. I joined a volleyball league through my gym and the tourny games are on Thursday nights. Maybe next week? I do feel a little better. I went to the dr. on saturday and he told me i have bronchitis...fun. One good thing about feeling crappy is that i have lost my appetite. I just hit 40lbs....hollla. Even Lauren paid me a compliment, which is huge. Anyways, care your pics are awesome and i love that little dudes play with fire. Its great that jackie is coming back east, but unfortunatly b/c my job sucks i am not going to be able to visit at all. I am on probation my first year at the RR, which is not surprising, but what is surprising is that i am not allowed to take any days off my whole first year. All i do is accumulate days and i can use them after my one year probation is up. Fuck the LIRR. Hope everyone else is doing well.

Lohan to visit Mass

Okay,

1) McCoy, I just looked at your pictures and they are amazing. I am unbelievable proud of you! That place looks so cool and I am so happy that you are having such a cool experience (also, can you look into to purchasing that cat rice maker simply so I can say I have a friend with a cat rice maker? Great.)

2) Harvey, are you feeling better? If so, how does Thursday night sound for dinner? Let me know, I can meet you in NYC after work.

3) I recieved word today that our favorite red head (No, not Lindsay Lohan...I wish) but JACKIE will be back in Mass for the summer!!! Why? Well, b/c she is a gyspy and apparently has deep running issues with staying in one place for more than like four months. Also, b/c she will be working at the Natick Organic Community Farm again. Anyway, this means that for the first time in, what, like two years or something, Myself, Brielle, Jackie, (and possibly a few others, though I do not know what people's summer plans are) will be living in close proximity this summer. Translation: Brielle, I am seeing a few unnecessary shopping trips as well as dollar drafts in the near future.

Pictures. Ok this link should work.

Ang that is awesome that the sopranos was in your actual town. Did your dad and James Gandolphini have an Italian off?

I miss you guys!

Woke Up This Morning, Bought Myself A Gun

So, I’m not sure if I’ve found enjoyment in this because of my undying passion for all things entertainment/celebrity or because it reaffirms so many stereotypes about both, being from New Jersey, and also being from a super Italian American family in an all Italian American town in New Jersey.

Yesterday morning, my dad is breezing through the aisles at the local stop and shop, sipping his coffee, leafing through the morning paper when he looks up and goes,
“Oh. What the Hell are you doing here?”

Apparently, James Gandolfini aka Tony Soprano was standing in front of him doing the same thing, sipping coffee, reading the paper.

So Gandolfini progresses to tell my dad that they were filming the final episode of the Sopranos at the Gas Station across the street from my house. (To a large, Italian man, saying ‘Oh, what the hell are you doing here’ apparently is similar to a waspy, blonde headed teen screaming and crying ‘I love you J. Timberlake! I love you!’ when star-struck)

So, Gandolfini continued to tell my father to bring his coffee over to the set to check it out, yada yada yada, my whole town was chock full of HBO trailers all day, yada yada yada…

And, just b/c I’m known for slight fabrication, this article will confirm that yes, it actually did occur in my town…not in, like, Cj’s town or something… http://www.dailyrecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070314/COMMUNITIES31/703140364/1203/NEWS01

Spoiler alert-rumor on the set was that Tony gets shot in the last episode…here’s to hoping it was a rumor…

And…scene.

Chinese Blogger makes for a difficult post

Hey guys. I am at an internet cafe right now surounded by Taiwanese gamers. I finally navigated the blogger site(it wasa in Chinese) and now here I am. Taiwan is awesome. Being in a city is great. I do a lot of pointing and nodding and I know how to say "hello" "thank you" and "pee pee". Armed with that vocabulary and my general street savvy I have made it through many comical/humbling situations involving buses, laundry and dumplings. You guys can check out my here.

PS Ash Bills!!

she's there

Caroline made it to Taiwan ok and as far as I can tell she's having a good time. I don't want to throw her under the bus, but I'm fairly certain she's checked this blog but just hasn't taken the time to write anything yet. She's a little busy. She's even been taking pictures and has put them up for all to see, however I'll let her provide that link.

Has anyone heard from Care? Is she, like, in Tawain? Roy....I'm tapping my foot at you right now...

the YO factor

Okay, so here's my thing. Either Melinda or Lakhisha are OBVS. going to win.

But, like, if you just got caught up in some media sex scandal and then KNEW you were going to be singing LIVE on National TV, why would you choose to do so in GOGO boots? I mean, seriously Antonella, the outfit was hot. There is a part of me that wishes I had the guts to wear boots like that, b/c they scream sex appeal and confidence that I just don't have. But really, do you really want to be flashing the American public with images of you spinning and flipping your hair around brass poles when they've already seen your woo-ha splashed all over the internet/major news networks? I mean, I'm just saying. But great legs.

But I do commend my boyfriend Simon Cowell for touching upon the matter in a gentleman sort of way, so as not to embarrass our troubled Antonella, but to sort of give her props for dealing with all the media crap. Ah, my boyfriend's such a Brit charmer.

Any thoughts?

Pics

Um, maybe i shouldn't have looked at those pics while at work considering they are semi-pornographic. I bet our IT guy is going to rat me out for visiting porn sites... oh well, what's the worst they can do, fire me? Oh, too late, im already leaving.

Ang, who the hell slashed your tires, and where were they slashed? at your house or while you were out? Hope AAA gets there soon.

antonella? for real?

yo speaking of slamming bottles. i am working on a nice friend named merlot right now while watching tivo'ed shows (yes, i tivo ellen and the view. don't judge.) Also, just in case you had not actually seen the picts.
http://www.bastardly.com/archives/2007/02/24/who-is-spreading-the-scandalous-antonella-barba-photos-is-it-amanda-coluccio/
i hadn;t and i just saw them. she should not be on that show.
um, who slashed your tire? That is no fun at all.
sorry dude.
more to say later.

3rd post

But necessary...this is me ranting...I've been waiting for AAA for over 2 hours to come and tow my car, seeing as someone felt the need to fucking slash my tire.
If they do not get here soon, I may have a small nervous breakdown.
I have read every blog, checked every news site, viewed the Marc Jacobs Fashion show like 6 times and put together imaginary outfits in my head.
I hate triple AAA. I hate my slashed tire.
I want to go home and hug my teddy bear, wear my torn walmart sweats, slam a bottle of Pinot Noir viz bendy straw and watch American Idol for eternity.
Thank you for listening. You are all truly good friends.

hey now

I wouldn't call lurking my job, it's more of a vocation, hobby, pastime, recreational activity, obsession, all consuming demon or what have you.

Encore

Encore, Ash Bills. Encore! Glad to see you still lurk, and also proud to say that I still lurk your facebook as well (BTW-I like your glasses, and also the cute, blondish bob cut you have going on...unless that was an old pic that I stalked out last week).
God, it's good to know that I am not the only one that wastes hours of my day looking at other people's photos, surfing celeb sites for comical stories, and reading too closeley into people's general 'interest' categories on facebook/myspace.
So, ugh, Ash Bills, what are you doing these days? Are you and Colin still in love (God, I already know you are bc facebook says you are 'married'. Are you living in Boston? Where are you working? Are you busy being a profesional? Can you please fill us in more about your life.
Also, I'm not sure if I am ashamed/proud of you getting wasted at Disney. Haha, okay, so I'm proud.
And please, keep the posts coming. Leave the lurking up to Roy/Brielle. It's, like, their job.

haha... i was just reading that story before i went to the blog. What an idiot and what a waste of good trees. I did not get your message on Saturday, but my phone has been a little weird lately. I so wish i did, you know how much i love "Jessie's Girl" (and she's watching him with those eyes, and she's loving him with that body, i just know it).
I don't think you are a jinx, I am still just nervous that they are gonna call me up and make me take a drug test or something else that would cause them to take away the job offer. I haven't smoked since before we went to Boston jsut in case (not like i would ever be able to pass one) and the fact that i can't smoke isn't helping b/c that is the one thing that would help calm my nerves. I would love to meet up w/ you and lisa when she comes. Count me in, but just give me a heads up as to when we want to meet up.
Enough for now, i have to wrap up all my crap before my last day.

ashbils is a blog stalker

Hahaha.
Ok so I ran into Brielle like 2 days ago which was awsome in Harvard Sq. and told her that i secretly periodically still stalk this blog so I thought now i must post.

so yeah. erin - congrats on the new job. i frequented that railroad many a time while at hofstra. i have fond memories of munching on a delectable penn station soft pretzel with just the right ammount of salt whilst sipping an ice cold diet coke during my LIRR travels.

ok so sorry i missed the caroline goodbye. you guys took some great pictures - oh, yeah i also stalk facebook. wow. it's getting eerie. it would have been great to see all you guys - i told erin - i was in FL getting very drunk and cut off at Disney world (um, who does that). riiiight.

Ok onto the most important next thing.
Antonella barba.
Seriously I agree with you erin. The only reason at all that she is being put through is that she is hot - that is it. Seriously the girl should be a model, but come on I can't believe she has made it even this far! There is a big thing about it right nowon the news (and by news, i mean some celebrity blog site) b/c they are saying idol producers are racist for basically cutting Frenchie Davis out for a similar thing but they are not doing it to Antonella.
And Sanjya? How the heck is he through? I actually thought the hispanic guy (nammmme?AJ??) who got voted off last week was good! Also, I hate to sound totally racist, but is it at all possible that Sanjya could have a really big Indian community following (I am not even positive he is Indian, but you know what I mean!) and that is how he is getting through. And, if that is the case, did any of you see that movie with Hugh Grant American Dreamz? I think that is where I am getting the idea from. It is either that or Sanjya has some huge tween following that we can't even imagine.

But come on, where are the Chris daughtry's? The Taylor Hick's, the Rubin's, The Jennifer Hudson's (PS of course, if you have not yet seen dreamgirls please head to your local theatre immed.)
I am liking Melinda and Lakeesha fo sho, there are no guys that are really doing it for me. Blake is ok. the sudo Brian Mcknight might be ok but i need to hear more. I do like the crazy hair jack black from high fidelity type guy. he is cool.

i was watching 24 last night and wow sometimes buchanan really reminds me of tim gunn. i don't know why i just thought of that but it would be funny if one day he were just like carry on jack. carry on.

ok i last question. Does anyone know if Lisa Luke's brother or relative or somthing is a highschool wrestler? I was at this wrestling torunament for Spike (my bro) this weekend and I am willing to bet mucho mula that I saw her but she looked different and I wasn't sure so I didn't go up to her, and then what if our brothers were like competing and it was all weird? Info apreciated.

alright i am off seeing as though i am at work right now. i have to go grocery shopping at lunch today. hah. ok then peace out peeps.

'POT'-sticker

I thought this link was worthy of a second daily post. Cheers, Harvey. Cheers indeed.

Dearest Harvey,
I am so glad to know that you consider dinner with me to be a 'jinx'. That being said of course, yes, I think Lisa Luke is coming to the city for a few days that same week, so maybe that Thursday or Friday night the three of us can grab some dinner/drinks?
If that's okay anyway. I wouldn't want to jinx anything for you. God knows I did want to be a witch when I was a kid.
And stop being stressed. You just got a sick job that pays more than the rest of your college roomates have made since graduation, combined.
Also, did you get my message on Saturday? Hoboken had their St. Patrick's day celebration early, and we were wast-o at like 2 in the afternoon, and some really bad cover band was playing 'Jesse's Girl' so I called you, imagining that you might be able to make out the lyrics somehow.

Fucking Stressed

Can you tell i am just a wee bit stressed out? Actually, no, im not stressed, im FREAKING OUT. I just want this damn job to start already. Lets meet up for dinner after i start it. I don't want to jinx anything before hand.

Hey, wow, why don't you get really mad about things Harvey.
You,ugh, you just sort of freaked out a little in that last post, huh? Um, wow, I feel a little uncomfortable now.

America Still Doesn't Know How to Vote

We as Americans are a bunch of idiots. Not only did we vote G.W. Bush into the white house, but we can't even vote the suckiest people off Idol. Yes, Angela, I totally believe that whore, Antonella Barber, should be thrown off. How in the world do you think you can sing Celine if you can't sing and Aerosmith tune properly? She is terrible and so was that dress. I can't stand her, she needs to go asap. And what about Sanjaya? He is a nice enough kid, but god does he suck. If both of them make it to the top 12, i am not watching idol this season (i probably will, but am just saying that for dramatics). Also, how am i supposed to juggle the new season of ANTM, which is on at the same time as idol? Hopefully, once it idol goes to the top 12, i will be able to resume watching Top Model, but i was so pissed that i didn't even realize i missed the premier episode last Wed when the Idol women were performing. I don't care about the Idol results show, so hopefully that Wed time slot will be free for Model viewing.

On another note, I gave my job my two weeks notice last Tuesday (my boss wasn't in on Monday). After i told my boss, i told the three attorneys, followed by everyone else. It went really really well and they all made me feel like a million bucks. All they did was praise my work ethic and tell me how well liked i am and that any company would be lucky to have me. They were happy for me, but sorry to see me go and understood that the opportunities for me at the RR were much better than those here. They also said that the company is like a "desperate girlfriend" and would alway take me back if this job didn't go through (as long as my position was still open). I just want the RR job to start, this whole thing is making me really nervous and i just want to get it over with already. Alright, enough bitching for me.

Seacrest sucks.
Harvey out.

tech

Angela, irfanview is exactly the program you want to use if you had a pc, but it won't run on your mac. iPhoto will actually do what you want. If you choose the images you want to resize, then choose the export item under the file menu you'll see a little dialog which has a size component. Under the part that reads "scale images no larger than", put in the size you want the pictures to be on their longest edge and it will do the rest. Does that work for you?

Excuse me, waiter...Tech Please!

Can someone (Roy) help me. I'm trying to download the photo program IfranView onto my Mac. The download went smoothly. It is an exe, which I thought meant that it should just run automatically once I downloaded it, but a screen popped up that is asking me to choose an application to run it from. Does anyone (Roy) know anything about MACS and have any any idea (Roy) which application I should select so as not to destroy my computer. I just need (Roy) to have a program where I can minimize the size of my photos (like, not cropping them, but actually making them smaller in techy terms). I have crappy IPhoto where I upload everything, but that is about all that program does (I think).

Okay, while I'm here, I thought I'd bring up a few other hot topics. WHY was Antonella Barba NOT kicked off American Idol last night. I mean, yes, she has great legs, and yes, that tribute to MOD dress she had on during her Ode' to Celine the other night was cute, but seriously. Harvey, any thoughts? I know you have insider Secreast info, I just know it.

Also, Harvey, have you given your notice yet? What was that like. If it was anything like the time I gave my notice, then you were out to lunch with your boss, standing in line to order an avacado salad, and then being forced to pay for both meals b/c "Can you believe it. This girl just quit on me. She's footing the damn bill now"

And finally, I recieved word yesterday that I have a place in Woods Hole for the summer. Matt and I are subletting a room with two PhD students for the summer. The place is right on the water, and right in the Woods Hole. Apparently, the house we are staying has roots in the Woods Hole community, and every year for the past 10 years, has been the host to annual Memorial Day Lobster Bakes and Labor Day Pig Roasts (ew...but cool). Apparently it is some big thing in the PhD program over there, and they usually get quite a large group of people, and since we are living there, they told us to feel free to invite friends. So, Mass kids, if you aren't doing anything for Memorial Day, and would like to stick your feet in the water, eat lobster (or veggie burgers...Roy), while drinking beers with me...well, you should.

K, bye.
